History
Our History
RW Dake Construction was formed in 1960 by Robert W. Dake. In January 2002, the business was sold to Greg Vangellow and two 20-year company veterans. Vangellow, who now serves as CEO of the firm, was well aware of the company, having served as its commercial banker for the previous seven years. RW Dake began as a specialty interior contractor performing all carpentry and painting related scope items. Over time, it has evolved and added on general construction capabilities at the request of its numerous private clients. RW Dake currently has over 200 carpenters and painters in the field and 24 project managers across 9 offices.

All About Safety
SAFETY MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of RW Dake Construction is to protect the health and safety of our employees, subcontractors, general contractors and our customers, while at the same time doing our share to protect the environment.
We continually update our ongoing Health Safety and Environmental Program, resulting in reduced illness and injury, preventing property damage and preserving the environment. RW Dake employs a full-time safety manager and has a safety committee that meets monthly to discuss new initiatives, incidents and near misses. In 2022, we worked over 510,000 hours. Our 2021 EMR rating was 0.82.
CORE VALUES:
RW Dake is a service-oriented business. Our team focuses on providing a safe working environment for all our employees and customers. All of our subcontractors must demonstrate that they share our core value of excellence and must document that their past practices and safety statistics meet the high standards that we have set for ourselves. Our values and practices also ensure that we are in compliance with all state, federal and local laws.
HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM (HSE):
Our HSE program consists of a 200-page strategy outlining dozens of policies and procedures and is updated periodically. All employees must read and acknowledge in writing that they have a clear understanding of the policies and procedures we have developed. All of our field employees are union employees who have had extensive training through the union organizations, and all have completed a 10 or 30 hour OSHA training course.
MSDS:
We utilize a 24-hour on-demand MSDS service, which provides quick access in the event of hazardous exposure to a material used in the performance of our work.
SAFETY COMMITTEE:
RW Dake has established a safety committee comprised of management, warehouse staff, and tradesmen from our construction and painting divisions. This committee was established as a management tool to recommend improvements to the workplace safety program and to identify corrective measures needed to control and minimize safety and health hazards.
In addition to the above, RW Dake practices many other safety protocol that are common in the construction industry: weekly tool talks, weekly safety articles, and training are ongoing to keep everyone up to date and always thinking about safety.
Everyone at RW Dake Construction is involved and committed to safety. Our entire team is dedicated to the prevention of accidents and injuries, and we work hard to keep each other safe and healthy in the work that provides our livelihood.
